May 2017: Beekeeping

Standard

For May’s meeting the Spa sweethearts welcomed Judith from the Harrogate and Ripon Beekeepers Association to tell us all about bees. After settling down with somBee in the gardene honey based snacks (see May’s Recipe of the Month) we listened as Judith explained the complex work of a beekeeper. We learned about many types of bees and the challenges they face in 21st century Britain. Judith took us through a year in the life of a beekeeper and the sophisticated society bees live in. From Virgin Queens to mating drones we all found out a lot of new information in a very enjoyable talk. There was a lively question and answer session and a few of us may have been inspired to take up a new hobby (or at least go and eat some honey!)   This month’s craft of the month is bee inspired so check out our new monthly inspiration section in the extras part of our website.
