November 2019: Make-Up

Standard

We were joined for our November meeting by local make-up artist Victoria Edwards. Victoria showed us how to create a natural daytime look on model Edwina. She explained the mysteries of foundation, concealer and which brushes to use. She recommended products for all ages and skin types. The daytime look was then changed to evening with a change of lipstick shade and then to the full party look with some smoky eyes. Our Sweethearts were full of questions on products and problems and Victoria helped show us how to feel good. So now we are all ready for the Christmas party season which is lucky as Spa Sweethearts has lots of fun events planned.

October 2019: Survival Skills

Standard

For our October meeting we were joined by Jonathon from Yorkshire Dales Bushcaft, we had a fun filled evening full of locusts and crickets! Jonathon started by telling us about his history and how he came about setting up Yorkshire Dales Bushcraft. He told us about the work they do from working with schools to adult campouts/adventure weekends (that some of our lovely Spa Ladies took part in earlier in the year). He then went on to talk about survival and the three key tips for survival; shelter, water and food! We went into more detail than expected on the food front, 3 very lucky sweethearts were chosen to try out some delicacies. As you can see by the pictures, they weren’t quite what was expected! Following on from that we got to have a go at trying to light a fire, we all got to try the locusts and we finished off by testing our knowledge around map reading skills.

September 2019: English Paper Piecing

Standard

For our September meeting Spa Sweetheart’s very own Amy taught us the art of ‘English Paper Piecing’. This technique involves folding fabric over templates and hand sewing these together. The paper/cardboard template shapes make sure that the blocks are accurate and fit together to create a finished piece. All English Paper Piecing needs is thread, scissors and a needle so it is a great portable craft you can do anywhere.

For our session we had the choice of either making a bookmark involving 5 hexagons or a flower-shaped coaster involving 7 hexagons. Once we had chosen our fabric we got stuck in basting our pieces and then carefully sewing them together. Concentration was very high and there were some beautiful creations by our sweethearts that you can see below.
